The “body” that is depicted in Christoph Ransmayr’s Novel “The Last Word” (1988) is to be regarded as an ultimate achrony, an intertextual movement relating ancient and postindustrial times–between past, present and future– .

His novel is also a mise en abyme of that same body, which includes a language of exile and the sound of Ovid’s voice.

It represents the myth of writing, which enshrines an act of resistance and the” vertical” memory of an engaged author as well.

This atemporality emphasizes a circular history of submission, domination and the commodification process of marginalized bodies.

It also reviews an Archeology of knowledge, its patterns and several forms of violence.

It’s a promise of emancipation turned into a sorry, into desperation, gloom and indigence.

These signs are recognizable on the faces of Tomi’s townspeople, the rusty cemetery city.

Trachila’s body and debris –its heterotopias–reverse violence mechanisms through violent signs within spaces of transgression.

Those are the expression of a Counter History with a new political sense, which exposes the” Grey Archive” of some kind of knowledge power.

These heterotopias recount another History against its own trend, a History of forgotten People, written by the official Historiography.

“The Last World” suggests a myth of the world creation and its end at the same time.

It also performs an Act of Resistance of/and through Literature, which can be considered as the Counter Reflection of an ultimate statement, as a space for subversion and the Re-writing of Otherness
