This research is devoted to studying an important aspect of Fatimid history, which is their relationship with the Sulayhid rulers of Yemen.

This research is based on a rare Yemeni manuscript that is taught for the first time.

This manuscript contains Letters of an important administration and prominent writer at the Sulayhid Diwan and writes about the Sulayhid princes to the Fatimid caliph Al-Mustansir.

The political Letters exchanged with the Fatimid caliph were chosen for study, due to its richness in historical material and its contemporary events at that time.

News of the Sulayhid conflict with the surrounding political forces was drawn from it in addition to the Sulayhis attempted to get rid of their opponents and unite Yemen under their authority.

The significance of these Letters lies in their authenticity and issuance from the Sulayhid letter Diwan itself, which means that the existing material is a reliableone, and it is indispensable for writing the history of Yemen during the Sulayhid era.

This conflict had political and doctrinal grounds and was mainly motivated by the desire for control, influence and tight dependency to the Fatimids in Egypt.

Ibn al-Qum was keen to inform the Fatimid caliph of all political events in Yemen, as well as the news of the Ismaili da`wa there, in addition to the efforts of the Sulayhids in maintaining security and stability in Makkah, the Haram and the Hajj season.

Ibn al-Qum also informed the caliph with some of the matters related to money and titles which he himself was concerned about.

Ibn al-Qam's letters reveal the form of the political and sectarian relationship between the Fatimids and the Sulayhids, including the exchanged discourse between them.
