Conceptualized by Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Eiser 1966, Reception Theory consolidated the reader’s relationship with the text in literary criticism, and acknowledged his presence in understanding and interpreting the text, after the struggle between the old school that focuses on the author in understanding the text and modern approaches that focus on the text itself away from the author.

This article tries to present the theory to non-specialist readers, so it introduces the theory, its horizons, and the patterns of readers, followed by the opinions of critics and writers, especially Arabs, about the theory.

The article provides an applied lesson on how to analyse a literary text according to this theory as a model that makes it easier for readers to grasp the theory in practice after they get acquainted with it theoretically .
