الملخص EN

Ten years ago, volunteering was declared as an important factor in development in 2001 when 126 countries of UN member states adopted the United Nations General Assembly resolution at the end of the International Year of Volunteers.

This resolution has provided several political recommendations for governments, United Nations organizations, non-government organizations …etc.

concerning the ways that secure volunteering development and support.

(UNDP, 2011:7).

In compliance with this declaration and the outcomes of research and conferences, this study aims at: 1.

Identifying the current position of the university youth participation in volunteering work.

2.

Determining the available volunteering opportunities and aspects for university youth participation.

3.

Identifying the obstacles that hinder the participation of university youth in volunteering work and initiatives.

4.

Identifying proposed mechanisms for enhancing the participation of university youth in volunteering work.

To achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher has adopted the following steps: 1.

Reviewing literature, researches and previous studies relevant to the topic of present study.

2.

Designing a questionnaire that matches the nature of the target sample.

It includes basic study aspects (current position opportunities, fields, obstacles, enhancement mechanisms).

3.

Verifying scale reliability and stability.

4.

Applying the scale to a random sample of (326) regular male and female students in King Abdulaziz University.

This study reached the following important results: 1.

The general mean of participation level of university youth in volunteering work was (2.1).

This, score shows that the level of university youth participation in volunteering work is (little) from the point of view of sample individuals.

2.

The general mean of sample individuals’ responses concerning the available volunteering opportunities and fields for university youth was (2.7).

This score indicates that the available volunteering work opportunities and fields for university youth was (middle) from the point of view of sample individuals.

3.

The general mean of sample individuals’ responses concerning the obstacles of university youth participation in volunteering work was (3.5).

This score suggests that the obstacles of university youth participation in volunteering work were (large) from the point of view of sample individuals.

4.

The general mean of sample individuals’ responses concerning the enhancement mechanisms of university youth participation in volunteering work was (3.7).

This score shows that sample individuals conduct these mechanisms mentioned within this research aspect for the purpose of enhancing university youth participation in volunteering work.

This enhances volunteering work to a (large) extent.

5.

There are statistically-significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) at the level of university youth participation in volunteering work according to the variable of sex in favor of males.

6.

There are statistically-significant differences at the significance level of (0.05) at the level of university youth participation in volunteering work according to the variable of participation in university activities in favor of those who permanently participate in university activities.
