This mechanism depends on the roles of non-state actors, and specifically local groups, pertaining to stimulating the building and strengthening of regional economic blocs.

The objective of this research paper is to shed light on the role of the cross-border co-operation mechanism in enhancing the performance of local groups in tackling the challenges that countries face in border regions.

And that is done by highlighting its dimensions and locating them in the process of building regional economic integration.
