Role of government in the management of violated women in internally displaced person’s camps

This research examined the role of government in the management of violated women in the internally displaced person‟s camps, A study of Gender based violence in Maiduguri Borno State 2010-2018, the research revealed the role made so far by the government in the displaced victim „camps in the state by using the method of descriptive analysis, questionnaires were been used to gather information from the violated women, The study found out that cases of sexually violated women are treated with confidentiality.

The camp settings by government do not ensured mainstreaming for the protection of women.

Violated women do not have access to government judiciary and it is usually difficult to prosecute perpetrators of the crime.

Shelter arrangement in the camps such that women are separated from men does not prevent sexual violence.

The study also found out that health services are provided to victims of sexual violence in the camps.

These services are provided by the NGOs and not by the government.

The study revealed that medical abortion to violated women are not authorizing, however, it is permitted when it threatens the lives of the victims.

The NGO‟s provide job opportunity to some of these women and assist them with tools and money to carry out their trade as a means of empowerment.

The sexually violated women were enlightened on how to manage and overcome traumatic disorder by NGOs in Maiduguri IDP‟s camps.

The study recommends that there should be high level sensitization of the danger of sexual violation among the male populace; the danger to them in terms of contacting Sexually Transmitted Infections should be spelt out.

Strict and adhesive punitive measure should be put in place for those involved in the act of violating women sexually.

Alternative source of energy should be provided so that women do not go out in search for fire wood and are attacked.

The government should give loan and provide employment opportunities for the sexually violated women.

This will go a long way in rehabilitating them into the society.
