Objective : the purpose of this study was to determine the composition of renal calculi by biochemical analysis.

Methods : the stones from one thousand and forty six subjects were studied.

The universal standard methods used were adapted for stone analysis utilizing commercially available kit (Merico).

Results : our results clearly indicated that calcium stones predominated.

Other stone types occurred with the expected comparative frequency reported in the literature.

Moreover, male predominance of the most prevailing stone type was seen with the exception of the "magnesium phosphate" stone where the higher incidence was found in females.

Conclusion : Application of our existing knowledge is needed and should be implemented by a "stone management" team.
