Hallervorden spatz disease : a case report

Authors are reportrng a case of a 13-year-old Jordanian female born to healthy consanguineous parents, who presented at the age of 11 years with extrapyramidal features and psychomotor retardation.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the brain showed on T2-weighted images decreased signal intensity restricted to the globus pallidus and substantia nigra.

In the center of the globus pallidus, a small high signal spot was seen (Tiger of the eye sign).

There was evidence of mild vermis atrophy with prominent cisterna magna.

This picture is consistent with Hallervorden Spatz Disease.
