The objective of this article is to analyze the determinants and trade potential of Algeria with its African partners in the context of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

After analyzing the structure of Algeria's trade with Africa, we estimated the gravity model on a sample of 25 countries, covering the period 2009-2019.

The results reveal that the economic size of the trading partners, the costs of transportation and the population have a significant impact on bilateral exports.

Estimates also show that there is an untapped trade potential between Algeria and some African partners.

الملخص FRE

L'objectif de cet article est d'analyser les déterminants et le potentiel des échanges commerciaux de l'Algérie avec ses partenaires africains dans le contexte de mise en place de la zone de libre-échange continentale africaine (ZLECAF).

Après avoir dressé un état des lieux du commerce de l'Algérie avec l'Afrique, nous avons estimé le modèle de gravité sur un échantillon incluant 25 pays et couvrant la période 2009-2019.

Les résultats révèlent que le poids économique des partenaires commerciaux, les coûts de transports et la population présentent un impact significatif sur les exportations bilatérales.

Les estimations montrent également que l'effet global des accords de libre-échange conclu par l'Algérie est négatif.

Malgré cela, un potentiel commercial non exploité existe entre l'Algérie et certains partenaires africains.
