The Algerian constitution, through the text of Article 84, granted the President of the Republic a constitutional role represented in embodying the unity of the nation and protecting the constitution, and ensuring the continuity of the state and its institutions.

This constitutional role has been expressed in general terms through which it cannot be concluded whether the role of the president of the republic relates to duties that fall upon him, or it is a privilege that allows him unlimited powers, adding to the president another factor in order to establish his superiority vis-a-vis the other authorities within the system.
