الملخص EN

Objective : To assess the effect of Shockwave lithotripsy as a monotherapy for bladder stones.

Method : This study was carried out on 29 patients ( 4 females and 25 males) with bladder stones.

They underwent shock wave lithotripsy using the Siemens Lithostar.

Their ages ranged between (22-65) years.

Results : Only two male patients required hospitalization because they developed urine retention as a post effect of Shockwave lithotripsy.

They were treated with cystoscopy, transurethral resection of prostate, and evacuation of stone fragments using an Ellik evacuator.

No major complications were reported.

All patients were stone-free two weeks after the procedure.

Conclusion : Shockwave lithotripsy appears to be a simple, well-tolerated and effective form of treatment of bladder, stones.
