Evaluating the quality of software in Tunisian public libraries

The study discusses the information retrieval system in Tunisian public libraries.

It aims to assess the quality degree of library software, in view of the managers of these libraries.

The study uses the descriptive survey method, using an electronic questionnaire sent to all managers of Tunisian public libraries, which are 432 individuals, of which 184 individuals responded, (43%) of the total study population.

In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the questionnaire was developed based on the (ISO 25023), and it was divided into two groups: the first is related to the evaluation of functional requirements (technical services and processes), and the second relates to the evaluation of non-functional requirements that include: performance efficiency, compatibility, reliability, security, maintainability, portability, and usability.

The study concluded that only (32) libraries use an integrated library system, (38) libraries use Excel or Word packages, and (140) libraries do not use any computer application to manage their holdings.

The results showed a medium level for the quality of software used in Tunisian public libraries.

The study recommended the computerization of the national network of Tunisian public libraries, in a manner that suits the needs of users, and encouraging individual attempts and efforts made by some Tunisian public libraries in this regard.
