Idiopathic colonic varices : an unusual cause of recurrent lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage

This is to report a 19-year-old male patient with recurrent lower gastrointestinal bleeding from colonic varices.

Despite a series of investigations, the etiology of the regional colonic varices could not be determined pre-operatively.

In the world medical literature, bleeding from colonic varices was attributed to portal hypertension secondary to cirrhosis or venous obstruction.

Only few cases of apparent idiopathic or primary colonic varices have been reported.
