Evaluating practicum at Majmaah university from English-language student-teachers’ perspectives

AbStract: This Study aimed to explore Student-teachers' per- spectives concerning the practicum at Majmaah University.

Descriptive approach was used by distributing a questionnaire among the Study sample who consisted of the whole society be- ing a small one.

Valid responses were analysed and Statistical analysis was one using SPSS.

The results showed that a one-se- mester practicum is fair and that most participants enjoyed teach- ing and gained benefit.

Student-teachers appreciated their inter- actions with their academic supervisors, mentor teachers, school headmasters, and teachers of other subjects.

Participants did not declare any major challenges.

Participants trained in the second- ary Stage gained more benefit and had less difficulties compared to those who taught in the elementary and intermediate Stages.

No significant differences appeared in relation to gender except gaining benefit during discussion with other teachers for the sake of male participants.

Participants with "excellent" GPAs showed more benefit while difficulties were more in the side of partici- pants with "good" GPAs.

The Study recommended that colleges of education should develop programs to bridge the gap between theoretical background and real life's job through using micro- teaching and watching classes.

Staff members are also recom- mended to train their Students by giving them chances to teach their colleagues and providing them with feedback.
