The study aimed to identify the effect of the social media on values and social identity of high school students in Oman.

The researchers adopt the descriptive method by distributing questionnaire to 520 students (242 females and 278 males) in 3 governorates: Muscat, AIDhahra, North Sharqeya (4 schools in each one).

The findings showed that the percentage of students who use their real names when registering in social networks (%62.31) is much higher than the percentage of students who use fake names (37.69).

The main objectives of using the social networks are: leisure time, follow-up of events, access to information, and learning, instagram is the highest network in terms of use.

Findings also showed that the most value affected by using the social media were educational and cognitive values and then the solidarity, followed by ambition, and the lowest values are maintaining identity and personality.

The use of social media has also enhanced the use of Arabic characters in writing, and the loyalty to Oman.

The study has reached a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: To educate the youth about some concepts related to the use of social media, such as breaching privacy by some, the schools have to educate their students about the negative effects of using social media.
