The issue of Eritrean liberation from the Ethiopian grip witnessed the interaction of many regional and international powers, whether positively or negatively, and Iraq was one of the most involved parties and supportive of the Eritrean liberation work process, as a result of the ruling regime's view of the Eritrean issue as one of the urgent issues and one of the manifestations of Arab solidarity against the Abyssinian colonialism supported by the West and Israel.

With the start of the armed Eritrean revolution, Iraq provided many manifestations of political, diplomatic, service, educational, military, training and arming support for the Eritrean revolutionaries, which enabled the revolution to continue the struggle to achieve victorious independence, despite Western and Soviet support for the successive ruling regimes in Ethiopia throughout the years of the Eritrean revolution.
