This study assignment for the first time a preliminary phytochemical and free radical scavenging activity of methanol extract from roots of Iris postii Mouterde, a Kurdish herbal remedy for treating inflammatory disorders.
The phytochemical analysis was done by thin layer chromatography, and it revealed the presence of flavonoids and polyphenols.
Free radical scavenging (FRS) effect was evaluated by 2, 2-diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay.
The methanolic extract of I.
postii roots had shown very significant DPPH radical scavenging activity compared to standard antiradical, IC50 92.0 μg/ml while Ascorbic acid (standard) IC50 112.74μg/ml.
