الملخص العربي
تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من كيفية تعامل الطلبة العرب الدارسين للغة الانجليزية مع مجال النفي.
وقد لوحظ أن طلبتنا ( غير الناطقين بالانجليزية ) يواجهون صعوبة في فهم الجملة التي تحتوي أداة نفي بشكل عام وعندما تنفي أداة النفي أكثر من جزء في الجملة بشكل خاص.
هذه الدراسة نوعية و كمية.
ستون طالبا من قسم اللغة الانجليزية في جامعة مؤتة في الأردن شاركوا في هذه الدراسة.
أعطي المشاركون امتحان يحتوي على خمس عشر جملة و كل جملة يتبعها خياران و طلب من المشاركين أن يختاروا الإجابة الصحيحة.
و تم إعلامهم أنه من الممكن أن يكون الخياران صحيحان.
و قد أفضت هذه الرسالة إن الطلاب يواجهون مشاكل قديمه في تفسير جمل النفي التي تحتوي على أكثر من قراءة.
الملخص الإنجليزي
This study aims to investigate how Arab learners of English approach the scope of negation.
It has been recognized that non-native speakers of English face great difficulty with English sentences which contain a negative particle, especially when the negative particle negates more than one element in the sentence.
This qualitative and quantitative study was conducted on sixty students from the English Department at Mu'tah University in Jordan.
Participants were given a test consisting of fifteen English negative sentences.
Two choices were provided for each sentence.
The participants (non-native speakers of English) were asked to select the correct answer.
They were informed that it is possible that both choices are correct.
The results illustrate that Arab learners face serious problems in interpreting sentences where the negative particle has multiple readings.
