Gender-based hate speech in facebook comments of Iraqi sport

As a result of the rapid development of social media and the emergence of many interactive applications.

As well as the significant increase in the number of users of these means in Iraqi society.

These variables have led to the emergence of new problems that various societies suffer from, including the Iraqi society.

One of these problems is the use of hate speech in social media through public and private posts, comments and replies.

Accordingly, this research is prepared to study gender-based hate speech which used in comments on Facebook.

At the beginning, the research provides a full explanation of hate speech and its approved definitions.

Then, It explains how to detect hate speech, whether it is involved explicitly or implicitly.

The research aims at clarifying hate speech and the basis it concerned with.

To achieve the foregoing, (50) comments containing gender-based hate speech are collected from some Iraqi sports pages.

In order to analyse these comments, the modals Speech Act of Searle (1969-1976) and Implicature of Grice (1975) are used to extract hate speech from these comments.

The results proved that the expressive speech act category is used more than the other categories as expected in the hypotheses.

The results also demonstrated the use of indirect speech act more than direct speech act.
