The study aims to identify the academic lag and its relationship with the cognitive beliefs of university students, as well as knowledge of the statistically significant differences in academic lag, and cognitive beliefs according to the gender variable (male – female).

The researcher prepared a scale (academic lag), and the number of its paragraphs was (42).

The questionnaire was applied after ensuring the validity and consistency of a sample of (150) students from Tikrit University 2019-2020, after randomly selecting a number of colleges, as well as preparing a tool for measuring (cognitive beliefs), and the number of paragraphs consisted of (52) Paragraph distributed positive and negative.

The questionnaire was applied after ensuring the validity and consistency of a sample of (150) male and female students from Tikrit University, after randomly selecting them from a number of colleges and after collecting and analyzing data, it was concluded in the results of the study that the students do not suffer from academic lag and also have a level Good cognitive belief, and there is a negative relationship between academic lag and cognitive beliefs.

In light of the results of the research, a number of recommendations and proposals were made.
