Investigation into the genesis of the cash Waqf

The study aims to explore the genesis of the cash waqf that emerged between the end of the first century and the beginning of the second century of Islam, starting from the following question: what is the real scope of cash waqf? Does it translate a purely material object, financial engineering, or does it refer to a more complex phenomenon that needs to be explored in a more in-depth conceptual framework? Starting from the referent texts and the section elaborated by al-Bukhārī in his collection of authentic ahādīth ‘The waqf of dawāb (mounts), kurā’ (horses), ‘urūdh (goods apart from gold and silver) and şāmit (gold and silver goods, coin composed of gold and silver)’, the study shows that the perception of the emergence of what is commonly qualified as cash waqf cannot ignore the qualities of the milieu from which it derives beyond purely financial considerations.
