determination of the chemical composition of the essential oil of fennel foeniculum vulgare (apiaceae) can help to identify the therapeutic properties of the plant.

this research aims to determine the chemical composition and amount of the essential oil obtained from fruits, leaves and roots, by hydro-distillation method, analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

the results of the study showed that the largest quantity of essential oil is found in the samples of the mature fruits of the low-lying area (a1 sample), immature fruits (b sample), and mature fruits of the mountain area (a2 sample), leaves (c sample), and roots (d sample) in the order.

the main components of fruits samples of the low-lying area and of the mountain area were anethole, fenchone and estragole.

for the immature fruits samples were anethole, 2,6-dimethoxytoluene and estragole.

for the leaves samples were anethole, dillapiole, fenchone and estragole.

for the root samples were dillapiole, myristin, methylamine and anethole.
