The Attitude of the Hanafi School towards Purity from minor Ritual Impurity during Tawaf (Circumambulation)

This research demonstrates the provision of purity during Tawaf (circumambulation) according to the Hanafi School whose attitude towards this issue is clear، it a kind of duty not an obligation.

For the Hanafi School، those who circumambulate the Ka'ba while not being pure، their circumambulation is true although it is duly disapproved.

If the one circumambulating the Ka'ba is capable of being purified، he becomes sinful.

Unlike the Hanafi School، the majority of scholars from the Maliki، Shafii and Hanbali schools say that purity during Tawaf (circumambulation) is an obligation and circumambulation cannot be true without purity.

Hence، the research aims at clarifying the attitude of the Hanafi School regarding purity during circumambulation as dutiful not obligatory as well as displaying their precise methodology of combining evidence and extracting provisions.

This research applies the descriptive analytical approach which relies on describing، analyzing and discussing sayings and opinions as well as refuting the objections stated against them deciding the most preponderant ones.

The research concludes with the findings.

For example، purity during circumambulation is dutiful for the Hanafi School and it is not a pillar for them unlike the other jurists who believe that purity is obligatory during circumambulation.

Another finding is that performing Ifadah Tawaf (onrush circumambulation) without purity is true according to the Hanafi School despite the due disapproval and sin which should be expiated by sacrifice to meet the shortfall arising from not being pure.

As for the other types of circumambulations، alms become due if circumambulation is performed without purification.

A third finding of the research handles the menstruating woman who cannot wait until she becomes pure، she can perform circumambulation during menstruation، and she is not obliged to do anything according to some jurists relying on her excuse and necessity، but it is better for her to sacrifice an animal to meet the shortfall in her case.
