The current study aimed to development and validating the behavioral characteristics scale for detection of gifted students in the secondary stage, aged 15-17 years, based on Sternberg's successful intelligence theory.

To achieve this, the scale was prepared after reviewing the theoretical frameworks regarding Sternberg's successful intelligence theory and reviewing the lists of gifted behavioral characteristics in Arab and foreign environments, For that, a scale was prepared to measure behavioral characteristics with the aim of validating it.

Therefore, the descriptive analytical approach was followed, which is the appropriate approach for the objectives of the current study and then it was presented to (11) arbitrators in the field of talent, measurement, and evaluation to express an opinion about the appropriateness of its dimensions and paragraphs, and the arbitrators' sincerity rates ranged between 0.733 and 1.00, which indicates the agreement of the arbitrators on the terms of the scale which consists of three dimensions: Analytical abilities (22) single, creative abilities (22) single, and practical abilities (22) single.

The scale was applied to an exploratory sample of female students in the secondary stage, amounting to (250) female students from secondary schools: El-Gamaa Secondary School for Girls, Khadija Secondary School for Girls in Assiut City, and Rifa Joint Secondary School in Assiut Center, Assiut Governorate.

In order to calculate the psychometric properties of the scale, and to verify the validity of the behavioral characteristics scale, the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was used to identify the factorial composition of the scale, and the use of correlation coefficients to calculate the internal consistency validity and to calculate the stability, Cronback's alpha and Pearson's coefficients were used, and the scale was re-applied.

The results indicated the validity and stability of the scale with high degrees.

Then the scale was applied in its final form on a sample of talented female students in the secondary stage which amounted to (100) students.

At this stage, the results of the level of analytical, creative and scientific abilities were extracted.

And a form of a structural equation model that explains the nature of the relationship between the three abilities, the differences in the average scores of the students on the three abilities and the total score on the behavioral characteristics scale according to the academic level, and The three and the total score on the behavioral characteristics scale according to the academic level, the standards that explain the students' scores on the scale, and the cut-off point by which the gifted student is identified.

The results of the study in general give confidence in the use of the scale in the initial identification process for gifted female students in the age group of 15-17 years.
