Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are considered a promising solar cell for the next generation of photovoltaic technologies.

In order to improve the electrical performance which requires to extent the catalytic activity between electrolyte and counter electrodes (CEs), we used urea as additive to the crucial component of DSSCs “platinum (Pt) counter electrodes (CEs)”.

We used the additive concentrations of 0, 2, 5, and 10 wt%.

The calculation of power conversion efficiency (PCE %) is notably improved with the use of urea.

The final results of PCE % for the concentration of 5 wt% of urea in Pt is ~ 10.56 % while before the use of urea was ~ 9.48 %.

It demonstrates improvements in short circuit current density (Jsc) by increasing the concentrations of urea which indicates that the more urea concentrations can enhance the conductivity of Pt which eventually leads to improve the quality of the device performance.
