Educational perspectives on global citizenship discourse in the occupied west bank

Even if education in global citizenship is becoming more widespread, the term "global citizenship education" (GCE) remains a confusing and ambiguous notion that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.

In this paper, we investigate the prevailing discourses that contribute to the construction of GCE.

The paper focuses on the rise of global citizenship education as a topic of discussion in the educational discourse.

It is based on a qualitative study that utilized semi-structured interviews and focus groups.

This article covers the outcomes of a research project the purpose of which was to study the perspectives of policy makers and the interest they have in GCE.

According to the findings of the research, policy makers and key informants working for the Palestinian ministry of Education displayed uncertainty and hesitancy towards GCE.

Many of them were unfamiliar with the concept itself, but they make use of it in a roundabout way through the activities they participate in at school.

According to the findings, policy makers and other key informants look at education on global citizenship from both a socialist and a qualification standpoint.

According to the findings of the study, additional research should be conducted to investigate how global citizenship is presented to students and teachers in the classroom as well as how it is taught.
