The impact of the covid-19 pandemic on irregular migration in the mediterranean region : an empirical study

The present article aims at investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on illegal migration in the Mediterranean region.

We argue that COVID-19 has negatively affected the number of illegal migrants due to the restrictions related to the containment of the virus.

Empirical results show that the pandemic was temporarily correlated with a decrease in the number of illegal border-crossings.
