The "forgotten" intrauterine contraceptive device : an unusual case

Perforation of the uterus by an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) is rare and can lead to serious complications.

Penetration of the urinary bladder by a misplaced IUD is uncommon.

We report a very rare case of bladder penetration by a lost "forgotten" IUD which presented with symptoms of cystitis l6 years after its insertion.

This report shows that the patient with uterine perforation by IUD may remain asymptomatic for a long time before complaining of chronic pelvic pain and dysuria.
