The douar of Aïn El Beida is an accumulation of dwellings (a douar) that we would describe as spontaneous, the oldest of which date from the colonial era.
This district with its capricious morphology is crossed by an “oued”, thus dividing it into two sub-districts (douar Arabe on its eastern bank, Morocco on the western one).
A hundred families have been squatting for several years now in a portion of the bed of the wadi, at its southern end, giving rise to one of the largest slums in Oranie.
The following text is the story of an exploration, of a field experience.
الملخص FRE
Le douar de Aïn El Beida est une accumulation d’habitations (un douar) qu’on qualifierait de spontanée, dont les plus vieilles datent de l’ère coloniale.
Ce quartier à la morphologie capricieuse est traversé par un «oued», le scindant ainsi en deux sous quartiers (douar Arabe sur sa rive Est, Maroc sur celle de l’Ouest).
Une centaine de familles squatte depuis quelques années déjà une portion du lit de l’oued, soit à son extrémité sud, donnant naissance à l’un des plus importants bidonvilles de l’Oranie.
Le texte qui suit est le récit d’une exploration, d’une expérience de terrain.
