The relationship between level of social media addiction, mental health, and academic achievement among high school students in Kuwait

Objective : the study aimed at investigating the relationship between the level of social media addiction, mental health, and academic achievement among high school students in kuwait.

methods : the study sample consisted of 695 students.

a questionnaire was used as the main instrument, which consisted of two parts : part one represented the respondents' basic information, while part two consisted of a checklist of addiction to social media, and a mental health checklist.

data was processed and analyzed by using spss.

the study used descriptive statistics, t-test and pearson coefficient factor.

results : the study results revealed that students' addiction to social media score was high indicating that 47.8% of them were addicted to social media with differences in addiction percentages.

there is also a positive correlation between addiction to social media and mental health and a negative correlation between addiction to social media and academic achievement.

conclusion : the study concluded that it is necessary to provide and apply family instructional programs to educate families about the risks of addiction to social media and its impact on mental health and achievement.
