الملخص EN

Introduction: The cervical Candida infections during pregnancy can transmit to the babies in the fetal life or during labor and delivery.

Aim of study Investigation of fungal transmission from preterm labor pregnant to their babies and determination of transmitted species and their sensitivity to antifungal drugs in vitro.

Study design: 90 women during term labor and their babies, and 100 women during preterm labor and their babies were randomly chosen.

Samples: Swabs were taken from the mother’s cervix prior to delivery, and then from different anatomical sites of neonates immediately after birth.

Materials & Methods: samples were colored by Gram stain and cultured on Sabouraud media to isolate fungi.

Species and their antifungal sensitivity were identified by ID32C and ATP Fungus 3 respectively.

All products were obtained from Biomerieux Co.

Results: Resistant strains to one antifungal drug were more transmissible than susceptible strains in preterm births.

C.

glabrata the most resistant species, it was transmitted in 41.67% preterm labor pregnant to babies.

In full gestation time pregnant, C.

albicans was the most transmitted species.

Control of cervical fungal infections could help to avoid preterm labor and high neonatal mortality in Syria.
