Some Arabic expressive verbs and their degree of strength : a pragmatic study

This paper aims to study Arabic expressive verbs in terms of their degree of strength.

It hypothesizes that there is no synonym in Arabic and that each expressive verb has a degree of strength and a special meaning.

Furthermore, expressive verbs are a class of speech acts that reflect the intention of the speaker and express his feelings and social attitudes towards a specific event.

In order to prove the validity of the hypotheses, the researcher studied 18 Arabic expressive verbs giving them different degrees of strength.

Finally, the paper concludes that in order to determine the degree of strength of an expressive verb, its denotative meaning and context must be taken into account.
