الملخص EN

Cystic hydatid disease is found worldwide and is caused by Echinococcus granulosus.

The prevalence of humans, sheep, camels, goats and cattle echinococcosis was determined in an endemic areas of Tciif governorate where control programmes have not heat operational since 1990.

Prevalence of infection in humans was determined using portable ultrasound [ultrasonography (=echography)] and chest X-rays, sheep, camels, goats and cattle echinococcus granulosus prevalence was detected by examination of the viscera from slaughtered livestock animals Pathological and bacteriological examination of the organs infected with cystic hydatid disease were also carried out.

The prevalence among 204 humans surveyed was 7.8 %.

The hydatidosis Prevalences of camtIs,local cattle, imported cattle, local sheep, imported sheep and goats among 11250 animals Surveyed were 15, 14, 17, (0), 69, and 2 consecutively in terms of numbers.

The incidences and prevalences of hydatid cysts in the livers, lungs, hearts, and kidneys were detected at rate of 0.20 %, 0.27 %, 0.10 % and 0.07 % respectively, whereas the total number of infected animals with Echinococcus granulosus was 117 (1.04 %).

Portable ultrasound or portable chest X-ray has shown that, compared to adults, children under 15 years had significantly higher positive rates (P < 0.05).

The pathological examination reveald various lesions in the organs infected with E.granulosus.

A total of (111) bacterial strains were isolated from those infected organs.

The prevalences of humans and animals hydatidosis in this endemic area of the Saudi Arabia Kingdom is one of the lowerst incidences in comparison with other parasitic diseases.

However, control programmes should be applied strictly for eradication this severe disease in both of humans and raised animals.
