Growing dependence of both developed and developing countries on SLOCs of the Indian Ocean for their foreign trade and import of oil from West Asia has also given rise to the need for ensuring free and uninterrupted flow of goods and oil through these SI OCs.

The United States is already discharging this self-assumed responsibility and involving other countries of the region in this regard.

Ambitious naval expansion, piogrammes of China and some of the regional countries can have serious implications for the peace and security of the Indian Ocean region
