الملخص EN

-This study endeavors to shed light on an important aspect of the intellectual life in Europe during the twelfth century.

The twelfth century witnessed a cultural renaissance on a large scale.

One of the most important issues that faced theologians was the reconciliation of Greek sciences with Christian beliefs.

The theory of knowledge was also an important issue, especially with the rise of universities.

Theologians had to outline a curriculum that did not contradict Christian teachings.

Hugh of St.

Victor was one of the most important thinkers of the twelfth century.

As a mystic thinker, he set out to define the field of knowledge.

In his famous study the Didascalicon, which is an introduction to the study of ancient arts, Hugh gives a comprehensive view of the importance of learning the liberal arts as a means to the attainment of divine wisdom.

The study analyzes his theory of knowledge and his division of philosophy in the Didascalicon, and discusses his influence on the making of the European mind.
