Incidence of tuberculosis In Fars Province, Iran

A It saxes of tuberculosis (TB) in Fars province population from 1991 to 1994 were identified.

During the study period, 989 newly diagnosed defi¬nite cases of pulmonary and extrupulmonary TB were identified.

85.7% were Iranians and 1J% Af¬ghans.

The average annual incidence rate of TB in Ira¬nians was 7.J6 (sputum-positive pulmonary TB 3.02) per 100,000 population.

In Afghan refugees, the incidence rate of TB (all forms) and sputum-positive pulmonary TB were 28.6 and 14 per 100,000 popu¬lation respectively.

The average annual incidence rate of sputum-positive pulmonary TB in Fars province (XS6) wax 52.4 percent lower than average annual incidence rate in Iran (7.50) for stuily period.

In the present study for every case of sputum-positive pulmonary TB.

There was 1.41 cases of sputum negative pulmonary TR or extrapulmonary disease.

The age-distribution of sputum positive pulmonary cases illustrated that 68 percent of cases were between the age of 15 and 54,71,7 percent were lets than 55 and 28.3 percent older than 55 years old
