الملخص EN

The recorded prevalence of trypanosomiasis in the Sudan for retrograde periods, considering the past, was written by ancient travelers in general terms of their effect on man and animals.

The accounts provide a useful background for the modern study; meanwhile the role of Wildlife in the dissemination of disease was noted obviously.

Wildlife is considered as a national wealth.

However, they could threaten the national economy and public health as they may act as an uncontrolled reservoir for many animal and human diseases; among them is trypanosomiasis, especially in southern Sudan where the first positive cases had been detected in Fangak, Dukfaiwial and Akobo in 1932.

Game eviction had been practiced during the mentioned periods as a control, measure.

It aimed at destroying the Tsetse fly by depriving it from food.

Besides all difficulties in this method, it also affects a source of hard currency and tourism.

So, alternative measures of control regarding vectors and trypanosomes must be considered and elaborated.

The use of impregnated traps, mass chemoprophylaxis, positive case detection and treatment could be safe and reasonable alternatives.
