الملخص EN

This study examines the technical and socioeconomic implications of sweet sugar cane products SPSC other than granulated sugar i.e.

golden syrups, treacle, open pan sugar and edible molasses.

To provide the study, technical and socioeconomic data had been collected from the sugar and food factories as well as local market.

For quality assurance the analysis were conducted on the markedly available SPSC, representing edible syrups and treacle manufactured by the factories Kennan, Saeed and Al-Modhish.

Meanwhile, the imported Tate & Lyle golden syrup was analyzed as standard quality for references.

The results were found in the following ranges; soluble solids (Brix) 79-82 %, total sugars 80.6-82.6 % ,reducing sugars 45.55-48.35 %, sucrose 32.48-37.05 %, actual purity 39.6-46.89%, refractive index 1.4930-1.5000 , PH 4.5-5.9, acidity 1.4-2.8 %, moisture 18-21 %, crude protein 0.612-1.03 % ,color in ICUMCA units 1893-2000,carbonated ash.

1.05 -1.5 %, sulphated ash 3.92- 4.47 %,relative viscosity 2.56-4.47, centistokes viscosity 3.40-4.2and ash minerals in the ranges of, ca 0.37-0.98 %, Mg 0.1-0.435 %, Na 0.36-0.67 %,k 0.05-0.5 %, Fe 0.125-0.0635 %, P 0.0012-0.002 % ; while of the Tate &Lyle were found,81 %, 80.135 %, 48.335 %, 31.8%, 39.25 %, 1.5000, 5.5, 1.4 %, 19 %, 1.1 %, 2000 ICUMSA units ,1.4 %,4.17 % respectively, as well as, the ash minerals of Tate &Lyle were found 0.64 %, 0.13 %, 0.93 %, 0.91 %, 0.065 %, 0.002 % accordingly.

As well, the results were compared with the standards of International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysis ICUMSA.

However, the comparison revealed that, the quality of the local edible syrups did not significantly different from.
