Serum prolactrin level and clinical presentation of depression

Forty depressed patients were studied, twenty of them (all females) presented with typical major depression, and the other twenty patients (19 females and one male) presented with atypical depression.

A statistical significant increase of serum prolactrin level was found in ma¬jor depressives when compared to both atypical depressives and control groups (twenty females).

A positive correlation was found between the number of recurrences and serum prolactrin levels in both depressive groups.
