Serum lipid and lipoprotein levels in elderly patients with diabetes and coronary heart disease from amara district, southern of Iraq

Adverse lipid and lipoprotein levels are clearly linked with increased risk of diabetic millutes (DM) and cardiovascular disease in eldrely age.

In this study the distribution of lipids and lipoproteins were evaluated in 83 individuals that aged over than 60 years; 42 patients suffered from diabetic millutes (DM) (23males and 19females), 15patients from coronary heart disease (CHD) (7males and 8femaels) and 26 normal healthy subjects were the control group that the similar aged years.Whose were recruited and attended AL-Sadder hospital and main center Endocrine and Diabetic patients from Amara city, Southern of Iraq.

In the present study.serum lipid and lipoprotein concentrations were measuredjincluded serum Total Cholesterol(tC),Triglyceride(TG),Highdensitylipoprteins(HDL-C),LowDensityLipoproteins(LDL-C),VerylowDensity lipoproteins(VLDL),Phospholipids (Ph.L), ,and were measured body mass index(BMI) was calculated as (kg/m2), blood pressure and fasting blood sugar(FBS).

In our results,found increased of serum total cholesterol (TC) and phospholipid (Ph.L) levels in DM patients compared with CHD patients and control (P<0.05), while the serum triglycerides concentration were higher not significant(P<0.05) in the all patient groups (DM,CHD)than that of healthy subjects (without apparent disesase).

Serum LDL-C an increased statistically significant levels in coronary heart disease compared with other study groups (P<0.01), it was found also the levels of HDL-C significant statistically decreased in patient with coronary heart disease only (P<0.01).While, there was an increased level of VLDL-C in diabetic patients which was highly significant (P^O.01-0.05), compared with coronary heart disease and control group.
