The influence of pre-aging on some mechanical properties of heat treatable automobile body sheet aluminum alloy (6063)‎

In this study the influence of pre-aging on the mechanical properties of heat treatable body sheet Al-alloy ( 6063 ) which is used in new automobile designs.

It was evaluated with a view to establishing its role on the strengthening characteristics.

The results showed a considerable improvement in yield, tensile strength and hardness with an increasing level of strain ( increasing the density of dislocation tangles ).

This was achieved without using pre – aging which apply in usual operation of auto body parts, so this investigation shows that the body sheet must be used in an under – aged condition.
