Hie need for the electronic alternative to hand-written signature has increased with the development of electronic commerce.

This study aims at determining why digital signature can increase electronic transactions.

Put another way, what are the methods of protection of digital signature? To answer this question the following matters were examined: firstly: the mechanism of digital signature: digital signature relies upon asymmetric cryptography which is used to simulate the security properties of a signature in digital, rather than written, form.

That is, how does digital signature work? Secondly: it is necessary for the two parties dealing through the internet and not knowing know each other to have a neutral third party who is trust by both in order to make them recognisable to each other.

There fore how can the Certificate Authority achieve this goal and be a mean of protection for the digital signature? Thirdly: The legal effect of digital signature and protecting the parties to the transaction in which digital signature is used.

The study ended with some recommendations that will hopefully be taken into account to amend the Jordanian Electronic Transactions Act.
