Microwave assisted rapid and efficient synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of 1,5-benzothiazepine

1.5 -Benzothiazepines 4a-j have been synthesized in 75-90 % yield by a microwave promoted condensation of 2-aminothiophenol 3 and various chalcones 2 in the presence of catalytic amount of glacial acetic acid using methanol as a reaction mediator.

The work-up is simple and involves treatment with ice-cold water.

The structures of the compounds have been confirmed by elemental analysis and spectral analysis.

All the compounds of this series have been evaluated for their Antibacterial activity.
