A comparative study of the pathogenesis and resistance to eimeria tenella in exotic and local chicks

The present work was designed to examine and compare the clinico-pathological effects of Eimsria tenetta in exotic and local chicks experimentally infected with 5000 sporulated oocysts.

The results of the study had clearly shown that exotic breed was highly susceptible than the local one.

This was judged by a higher number of oocysts per gram of faeces, tissue oocysts and schizonts deposition, longer patent period, more obvious clinical signs, i.e.

soft faeces containing blood and dullness, marked reduction in hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and packed cell volume (PCV) %, increase in lymphocytes and eosinophils count and a decrease in neutrophils count when compared with the local breed.
