Studies on the productivity of peppermint (mentha piperita l.)‎ Under different locations in upper Egypt conditions

The productivity of Menthe pipe Rita of fresh, dry herb and its volatile oil were determined in four locations in upper Egypt (Beni-Suef, Sohag, Qena and Aswan Governorates).The productivity of fresh herb at Beni-Suef was the highest (7.36 kg/ m) followed by Sohag, Qena and Aswan (6.00, 5.72, 5.19 kg / m2, respectively), this was equal to 30.91, 25.17, 24.03 and 21.80 ton / fed.

(4200 m2) for the four locations, respectively.

The dry herb weight was 0.70, 0.56, 0.54 and 0.49 kg / m2 equal to 2.92, 2.33, 2.25 and 2.06 ton/fed.

The oil percentage in the dry herb was that determined to show the highest value (2.72 %) in Aswan and the least in Beni-Suef (1.71 %) and where the some values in Sohag and Qena were 2.55 & 2.51%.

The highest content of Menthol was obtained from Qena and Aswan (51.09 and 51.32 %) and the least from Beni-Suef (44.45 %).

On the other side, the highest content of Mentone was obtained from Beni-Suef (32.87 %) and the least from Qena (24.7 %) while Sohag and Aswan came in between (30.25 and 29.84 %).

Iso-Menthon and pulegon contents were less in Beni-Suef than other locations (3.01 %).
