الملخص EN

This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of ozone on marginal integrity and surface topography of class V restorative system.

A total number of 100 freshly extracted sound human premolar teeth of the permanent dentition were selected.

80 teeth were used for assessment of marginal integrity at different levels of the study.

The teeth were divided into two equal groups relative to the restorative material utilized i.e.

40 teeth for resin composite restoration meanwhile the remaining 40 teeth were used for restoration with glass ionomer.

Each group was subdivided into 4 equal subgroups according to the time of application of ozonated water i.e.

zero, 20, 40, 60 seconds respectively.

Microleakage was tested using a standardized dye penetration method.

The remaining 20 teeth were divided into two equal groups, 10 teeth for each restorative material.

Quantitative and qualitative assessments of surface roughness in dental tissues and restorative materials were done for the same specimen before and after ozone application for different time intervals.

The results showed that, there was a statistically significant increase in the surface roughness values of the dental tissues and restorative materials in all groups after exposure to Ozonated water for 20, 40, and 60 seconds.

There was also a statistically significant decrease in the gap area values of composite and glass ionomer after exposure to Ozonated water for 20,40, and 60 seconds.

It could be concluded that, ozonated water has a detrimental effect on the surface roughness and topography of dental tissues and restorative materials.

In addition, ozonated water plays a positive role in reduction of gap area at tooth restoration interface.
