الملخص EN

An experiment was conducted at four locations in Jordan namely Khanasri, Ramtha, Rabba and Ghweer, during the 1999/2000 growing season, to evaluate grain and biological yield performance of eighty seven barley breeding lines and three checks(Zanbaka, Arta and Sara) for tiieir drought tolerance.

The genotypes were found to differ in their biological, and grain yields in eaoh of the four locations indicating that the necessity to practice selection in the target environment.

Significant differences for biological yield and grain yield were found for genotypes at Ghweer and Ramtha but not at Rabba and Khanasri.

Genotype no.

72 (W12291/3/C1 03309/Attiki/Hja33/4/Gustoe) ranked first in biological yield (380 g/plot) and genotype no.

35 (Moroc 9-75//H,spont.41-5/Tadmor-2) ranked first for grain yield (90 g/plot) at Ghweer location.

Genotype no.

48 (Moroo 9-75//H.8pont.41-l/Tadmor-10) ranked first in biological yield (590 g/plot) and genotype no.

69 (Tadmor/W12291-2) ranked first for grain yield (180g/plot) at Rj,mtha location.

.

Combined Statistical analysis for all locations for biological yield and grain yield showed significant differences among the genotypes studied.

There was significant genotype X location interaction for biological yield but not for grain yield.

Overall, genotype no.

69 (Tadmor/Wl2291-2) ranked first in mean biological yield (310 g/plot) and genotype no.

30 (Moroo 9-75//H.spont.41-5/Tadmor-2) ranked first for mean grain yield (90g/plot) at all locations.

Both of these genotypes produced more grain and biological yield than all checks.

Genotype (Moroo 9-75//H.spont.4l-5/Tadmor-2) ranked among the top five in three locations for grain and biological yield, Overall, the annual rainfall and its monthly distribution was less than half of its annual average in all location.

This made it a good year to evaluate the performance of these genotypes for specific and general adaptations.

Therefore, genotype no.30 (Moroc 9-75//H.spont.41-5/Tadmor-2) produced more grain yield than the best cheok (Arta) with an increase of 10 g/plot.

This would indicate that this line would have general adaptation and will be advanoed for farther Evaluation.
