Acceleration waves in a radiative and vibrational nonequilibrium gasdynamics, when the medium ahead of the flow is in a general state of nonequilibrium, spatially uniform and at rest

In this paper, the method of characteristics is applied to study the effect of ambient radiative nonequilibrium as well as the effect of ambient vibrational nonequilibrium on both compressive and expansion waves.

It is found that the ambient radiative nonequilibrium increases the strength of the compressive wave and terminates into shock wave ; while the convergence rate of expansion waves decreases by the presence of ambient nonequilibrium.
