Variabilite infraspecifique du rendement et de la composition chimique des huiles essentielles du romarin (Rosmarinus officinalis L.)‎

The farming of aromatic and medicinal herbs in Morocco needs efficient plants availability with regard to active substances yield and quality.

The objective of this study is to investigate the individual variability of the essential oils, taking into consideration yield and chemical composition, for two Rosmarinus officinalis L.

populations, which come from Debdou and El Ayate areas, located in the Oriental Morocco.

Nine individual bushes per area were chemically analysed.

The findings of this study showed that a significant variation in yield was observed between the individuals of the two provenance, varying from 0,5 % to 2,9 %.

The individuals of Debdou provenance present an average yield of 2,1 %, greater than that obtained for the El Ayate individuals (1,6 %).

The chemical composition variation, observed within the individuals of the two provenances, was sufficiently important, but more pronounced among the El Ayate individuals than those of Debdou.

Some individuals bushes showed high contents of cineole, varying from 50 % to 60 %, and low contents of camphre.
