Epidemiological study of carpal tunnel cases referred to plastic surgery unit

A prospective analytic study of carpal tunnel compression in JO patients from south < and central part of the Basrah City, they were of middle socio economic class.

Seven of them were males and 43were females.

All were complaining of symptoms of compression of median nerve.

Full history and comprehensive questionnaires were carried out, followed by clinical examination and electrophysiological study.

This epidemiological study was planned to detect the risk factor in carpal tunnel syndrome i.e.

which group of local community is most likely to be affected.

The results showed that those women between'35 -55years of age, housewife, obese, diabetic and multipara were mostly affected.

Tain and awakens from sleep are the major presenting symptoms.
